Looking to add a little hands-on Valentine's Day fun into your class? I have created this easy step-by-step lesson on how to make crystal hearts that will leave your kids in awe! Borax hearts are a beautiful way to bring functional reading writing and science skills to life.

Kids absolutely love bringing them home and parents are even more happy to see the reading, writing, and science that went behind creating them. Unlike sugar or salt crystals that take days to form, these crystal hearts are done overnight. Students beg for this activity each year and I am sure yours will too!

This specific lesson is great if you don't have the physical supplies on hand OR want students to simply have the visuals for each step to reference on their own after the experiment is done.

This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. With this lesson, students get to type their answers directly on the screen. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.
