Silly Sentences - Sentence Cubes - Special Education - Reading - Writing

Looking to integrate a fun and new way to get students writing in your classroom? After years of trying to teach students the vocabulary behind parts of a sentence, I realized it was too difficult for them and I needed something more FUN to get their attention. I designed this activity as a pre cursor to units teaching about adjectives, nouns, verbs, etc so students could learn about this often complex topic in a way that was engaging and meaningful for them. This fun lesson allows students the creativity and visuals needed to help bring their sentences to LIFE! Based on a tactile approach to learning, I have designed fun cubes that students roll in their centers. They then have to physically organize them all to make a sentence. Finally, they are asked to visually draw what their sentences would look like in real life. Many of these cubes have a variety of silly sentences that your students would love! How I Use This In My Classroom:

I print each silly sentence center on a different piece of colored paper (5 centers total) so students can easily identify which center they are on. I make sure the cubes are made ahead of time and often have students help me make them! We then divide the class into 5 and students rotate from one center to the next. In each center, they roll all their cubes and try and arrange a complete sentence. Then they draw the picture. They roll four times before they get to move onto the next center!
