Have you been looking to integrate more science content into your classroom instruction but don't really know where to begin? This download gets you started with ideas for FIVE fun experiments you can easily replicate in your classroom (either in person or virtually). Although initially designed for special education, life skills students, any student could benefit from the visual and simplistic language used in this entire DIGITAL packet.

This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. With this lesson, students get to type their answers into the colored text boxes. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.

This purchase includes organization tips, materials list, visuals, and comprehension sheets that are kid-friendly. These DIGITAL worksheets can be completed by students after finishing the experiment and use simple vocabulary to explain the science behind each of the experiments in this download. The supplies needed for these experiments can easily be found at a dollar store or a grocery store. I tried to make sure it was cost effective so teachers could implement them on a larger scale in their classrooms.

How I Use This in My Classroom

Since many teachers are integrating online lessons into their daily instruction, I created an online version of this science experiments activity. If you are teaching virtually with your students, prep the supplies in individual baggies ahead of time so families can have them on hand. If you have a lot of students, you can simply live stream the experiments from your home computer as well. I like to log in through zoom or google meets from my phone so I could get the students to see a closer look at the chemical reactions taking place on their screens at home. After the experiments are completed, students can answer the comprehension questions. Kids absolutely love it, and the scaffolded process really helps them engage in a much more meaningful way!
