Martin Luther King - Special Education - GOOGLE - Black History Month

Martin Luther King Jr. was such a historic person and one that all students should have a chance to learn from. Many of my students are unfamiliar with the Civil Rights Movement and can get easily overwhelmed with the amount of information available online to them. This DIGITAL activity was created as a simple way to introduce them to these very important historical times in a manner that is both meaningful and relevant for them.

This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. With this lesson, students are able to type directly into the colored boxes on the digital worksheet. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.

This is an excellent lesson to integrate real world reading, writing, and social studies skills all into one activity. Although initially designed for special education students, any teacher looking to provide their students with a brief introduction to Martin Luther King Jr. would benefit from the simple vocabulary and engaging tasks included with this purchase.
