Thank you for your interest in my functional reading product. I am a life skills teacher and emphasize creating curriculum that is both functional and relevant to students in the real world :-)

In my secondary life skills classroom, I have noticed many of my students are intensely interested in cars and anything driving related. Many of them want to get their permits, but are unable to understand how to take meaningful information from basic signs you see on freeways and highways.

I created this product as a necessity to give my students the much asked for practice with road skills they wanted. Students are SO excited to practice their comprehension of road signs with these worksheets, and are motivated to improve their reading, writing, and math skills in the process.

This is an amazing purchase for any special education teacher who teaches teenagers. Even if students' skills would prevent them from actually driving one day, this content gives them the confidence needed to take the first steps to raise greater understanding of the world around them. By using key vocabulary such as "merge," "exit," "interstate," and reviewing important road symbols, students will gain the knowledge to truly pay attention to road signs in a more meaningful manner. Additionally, I have integrated math into this lesson by asking students to compare which exit is closer (example: 1/4 mile away or 1/2; 34 miles away or 43 miles)

Purchase Includes:

 - 18 actual images of different road signs

- 90 comprehension questions (5 per sign)

This is a print and go packet - NO PREP REQUIRED!

It would also be a great tool to integrate into IEP goals with to support functional academics.

"By xx/xx/xxxx, Student A will increase his functional reading skills by answering comprehension questions on randomly selected road signs from __% accuracy to __% accuracy, as measured by classroom based assessments."
