Are you looking for ways to have your students practice real world reading in a functional manner? This activity has students sort mail into the correct boxes. Many students at school often work on this skill by delivering mail to teachers as part of their daily jobs. This would be a great lesson to reinforce this job skill in a virtual manner!

This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.

Two versions of this lesson are provided. Unit one is great for lower level learners who are beginning to match names. I have color coded the name on the document to match the color of the box it should go to. Unit two has the color prompts removed so it is more of a challenge to complete. The boxes are alphabetized in ABC order and are presented in a way that mimics something you might see in the real world.

This activity is a great way to practice jobs skills and promote functional reading all at once! Make sure to watch the video preview or click the link above to see a sample from my actual product!

Purchase Includes DIGITAL ACCESS To:

  • Unit One with 20 color coded prompts for students to sort the mail
