Have you ever been to the grocery store and found yourself closely reading the labels of items to make sure you are buying the right one? Phrases like "low sodium," "organic," "diet," etc. all make a huge difference in the type of product that you are purchasing! Help your students practice this very important life skill with this functional download.
This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. With this lesson, students are able to drag and drop arrows to identify which item they would buy. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.
This activity provides students with a variety of shopping prompts and then has students select the right item from a visual list of 3 items that look similar. Students need to read the labels carefully to make sure they are buying the correct kind. This is an excellent, age-appropriate activity to practice functional reading skills that students will need in the real world! A total of THIRTY ONE different task cards are provided in this unit.
