In this set of GOOGLE SLIDES, students get to practice identifying which kitchen tool to use for a given task. In level one, students will be given specific cooking scenarios and then will be asked to select which kitchen tool would be the best tool to use for this task from a field of three visual choices. A total of 30 cooking scenarios are included in this level. For level two, students will be shown a randomly selected kitchen tool and then asked to (1) state its name and (2) describe a scenario on when it could be used. A total of 30 prompts are provided for this level as well.

This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. With this lesson, students are able to drag and drop images into their correct locations. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.

Cooking is an important life skill and one that many students have difficulty mastering. With these task cards, students can practice learning important kitchen vocabulary in a highly visual and structured manner to foster a deeper understanding of the material.
