Are you looking for a fun way to practice some adaptive skills with your students? This activity has students search for items in the dark by using a flashlight. Students will be given a visual picture of an item they can find in their fridge or freezer and then will be asked to find that item using a flashlight. They will slide the flashlight around the screen until they find the correct item in the fully stocked fridge and freezer. Once they find the item, they simply press next and move onto the next slide! Please note that these boom cards do not mark answers as right or wrong. Students simply press next once they have found the matching item.

This is more than just a fun matching activity! You can have students identify the name of the item, whether they like to eat it or not, and even maybe come up with a simple recipe it can be used for. This is a great activity to engage in real world conversations in a developmentally appropriate and age respectful manner!

How I Use This in My Classroom:

I like to work in small groups for this activity. I have students take turns finding the items on each slide. We first discuss if the item could be found in the fridge or the freezer so we know where to focus our search on. We all take turns saying what the item is before we search for it. As an extension activity, I also have students discuss whether they like that item and have it in their own fridge or freezer at home. For higher level learners, I ask them to share an item they can make or eat with each one shown on the slides.
