Job Skills - Life Skills Warm Ups - Vocational Skills - Pet Store - GOOGLE
Providing students with simulated job skills practice in the classroom is a key part of ensuring their success while working at a job site in the community. If you are looking for a print and go activity that focuses on functional reading, writing, and math skills, this is the download for you! These life skills warm ups focus on job skills needed while working at a PET STORE.
This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. With this lesson, students get to type their answers directly onto the digital worksheet. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.
Each worksheet is structured similarly to build independence and mastery for students with learning disabilities. These worksheets will let students practice things like reading an analog clock to tell what time they clock in/out of work, taking inventory of animals, identifying what type of animal a specific purchase is for, helping customers pick the correct items for specific animals, calculating dollar up costs, and making change for customers. A total of five worksheets are included with your purchase (a total of 50 questions in all).
❤️ How I Use This In My Classroom ❤️
To practice a wide range of job skills, I provide my students with one worksheet a day. Each week focuses on a new job theme. We start the week by modeling the answers together as a class and engage in discussions about why we would need to know how to do those things at a job site. Once students are given instruction on how to complete the tasks, I slowly let them do more of the tasks independently. By the end of the week, students should be able to complete the work on their own. If more instruction is needed, I work in small groups to target specific areas where more growth is needed (ex: analog clock, review of pet supplies, making change, etc.).
