Going to the grocery store can be quite overwhelming for those who are unfamiliar with all the options they have to shop for. Sticking to a budget can be even more difficult when you realize there are multiple options of purchasing the same item - 8 pack? 4 pack? 12 pack? Help your students master this very important skills of comparative shopping by purchasing this download.
By presenting real world images and walking students step by step through the process of finding the best deal, students will begin to get a better idea of how unit prices ultimately impact the final purchase price of an item.
This activity is specifically formatted to be used with Google Drive and is compatible with Google Classroom. Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. Students simply type their responses in the digital boxes! It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.
Each prompt provides the student with a specific item and amount to purchase. Then, visuals are provided to show the student the two options they have. Ultimately, students are asked to purchase the one that costs them the least and fits the criteria given in the directions.
Help build real world math and reading skills in your classroom by practicing this invaluable life skill! Kids love the relevance this packet provides them to the world outside of the classroom and you will love all the math your students will be working on in the process :)
