Every year, coming up with FUNCTIONAL IEP goals is of utmost importance for students' success outside of the classroom. It is important that the IEP team work together to select goals that are relevant, age appropriate, and directly applicable to the real world to ensure future independence.

This FREEBIE provides you with a examples of meaningful goals that are broken down by different areas of SDI a student might need support with. A total of 24 functional goals are included with this download in the following areas: math (money), math (cooking), math (time), writing, reading, independent living / adaptive, behavior / social skills, and vocational skills.

Goals are written in SMART format so that they are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound. Text is highlighted in yellow that needs to be changed to reflect the specific information for your student (ex: date, student name, baseline data).

How I Use This in My Classroom:

I like to print a hard copy of the document and put it in a binder that I can easily reference when brainstorming ideas for students' IEPs. Once the team has determined and agreed upon a specific set of goals, I use the digital document to copy and paste the text directly into my IEP document. You can use the shortcut CTRL + F to easily find keywords for skills you know you are interested in having your student focus on in the coming school year. Once pasted, make sure to fill in the information that is yellow with accurate data. As always, remember that an IEP is supposed to be an INDIVIDUALIZED document that reflects a student's individual needs. This IEP goal bank hopefully serves as a place for you to start when thinking of ideas you would like to work on with the student to align in the areas of SDI that s/he qualifies for.

Purchase Includes:

  • A total of 24 IEP goals for the following areas: math (money), math (cooking), math (time), writing, reading, independent living / adaptive, behavior / social skills, and vocational skills.
  • Two versions of the document are included. A .pdf for easy printing and a .ppt for easy copy/pasting of text
